How to Prepare Your Guest Bedroom for Christmas Visitors

Christmas is a time for bringing family and friends together, and for many households that means having guests staying overnight. Whether relatives are travelling from across the country or friends are staying after a Christmas celebration, a comfortable and welcoming guest bedroom can make their visit much more enjoyable. The good news is that you don't need to create a luxury hotel room. A comfortable bed, fresh bedding, useful storage and a few thoughtful touches can make all the difference. Here are our tips for getting your guest bedroom ready for Christmas visitors. 1. Start with a Good Declutter Guest bedrooms often become unofficial storage rooms during the year. Suitcases, boxes, clothes, paperwork and items that don't have another home can gradually take over the room. Before your Christmas visitors arrive, have a proper clear-out. Remove anything your guests won't need and try to create enough space for them to unpack their belongings. You don't necessarily have to get rid of everything. If storage is limited, furniture with built-in storage can be particularly useful. An ottoman bed, for example, provides a large storage area beneath the mattress where you can keep spare bedding, clothes and other items out of sight. 2. Check the Guest Bed The most important piece of furniture in any guest bedroom is obviously the bed. Take a few minutes to check it before your visitors arrive. Make sure the bed frame is stable, the headboard is secure and nothing squeaks excessively when you move around. During winter, consider using bedding suitable for colder nights and provide an additional blanket or throw. It gives visitors somewhere to put: A phone Glasses A drink Medication A book Jewellery Other personal belongings If space allows, ideally provide a bedside surface on each side of a double bed. A bedside lamp is another useful addition, allowing guests to turn the light off without having to cross an unfamiliar room in the dark. 9. Make Charging Phones Easy Most guests will arrive with at least one device that needs charging. Make sure electrical sockets are easy to reach. If the only socket is hidden behind a wardrobe or bed, consider safely repositioning furniture or providing a suitable extension solution. It's a small detail, but one your guests will probably appreciate. 10. Provide Somewhere for Luggage Suitcases can quickly take over a guest bedroom. If possible, create somewhere for luggage to be stored during the visit.
